The City is complex, cosmopolitan and corrupt – a hive of scum and villainy. The rich live near the Oases, the poorer citizens out on the edges of the city. The primary beasts of burden are Rhino, carrying goods across the desert.
Outside the city, off into the desert, are mysterious stone arches, which function as not-at-all-stargates-honest-guv, leading to vastly different locations across the planet. When new arches are uncovered, the general approach is to boot convicts through until someone makes it back to give a report. These Doorways are managed by the Guild of Doorkeepers – a loose collective of masons, academics, archaeologists, cartographers, //big// game hunters and an array of associated trades.
Beyond the desert, there is more regular terrain, though travel takes time and effort. There is a swamp within regular travel and beyond that an ocean.
